Lena Rusik, 95, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully to the arms of the Lord on Monday morning at the River Ridge Living Center.
Born in Amsterdam on March 9, 1918, one of nine children born to Anthony and Concetta Morreale, she lived here her entire life. Lena was a seamstress for Mohawk Sportswear where she retired in 1980. Prior to that she worked as a presser for the Brookshire Shirt Factory. Lena was a devoted member of the Secular Third Order of St. Francis and St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who loved to entertain and cook for family and friends, especially her Polish and Italian dishes. On September 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Julian Rusik, who predeceased her on September 20, 2003.
Lena leaves her dear daughter, Maryanne and husband Paul Swinarski of Broadalbin; grandchildren, Jessica Hartig of Las Vegas, NV and Christopher Swinarski of Broadalbin; sisters, Jennie Vidulich of West Galway and Nancy Lasky of Amsterdam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lena's brothers were Umberto (Al), James, Frank, Joseph, Stephen and Samuel Morreale.
Services are Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus' Church. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis will be celebrant. Interment is in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
