Orpha J. Stone

Mrs. Orpha J. Stone, age 95, of Amherst, N.Y., died Monday, December 16, 2013, in Hospice Care of Buffalo. She was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y. on April 14, 1918, the daughter of Elvin and Pearl (Forkey) Honsinger. Orpha attended Plattsburgh State Normal School and then married F. Burton Stone on June 28, 1938. He died on Nov.11, 1973.

In her young married days, Orpha was a member of the Northville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was an active member of the Berean class. She was an associate at the Singer Sewing Company in Gloversville before moving to Rochester in 1962. There she was employed as an officer at the Lincoln Rochester Bank, retiring in 1983. After her retirement, Orpha moved to Amherst where she was an active member of the Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church.

Orpha is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Julie and Michael Schiavone of Amherst and Karen and David Lyons of New Hampshire; her five grandchildren, Bradley Schiavone, Jonathan Schiavone, Lori Molica, Mark Lyons, Cheryl Cashin; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, December 28, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church of Northville. A Service of Remembrance will be held there at 12:30. A luncheon reception will immediately follow the service at the BCON Center, on the corner of Bridge St. and Main St. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in the spring.
