Mrs. Pauline E. Bell, 94, formerly of Mayfield, passed away December 5, 2013, at the Wells Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was born July 31, 1919, in Mayfield, daughter of the late Edward and Edna Van Avery Eschler. Mrs. Bell was educated in Gloversville and graduated Gloversville High School. Devoted to her family, Pauline was a hard worker throughout her life. Early, Pauline had worked for the former FJ&G Railroad, Decca Records and as a meat wrapper at the former P&C Market. She also worked at the family business, Bell's Service Station & Market in Riceville.
For many years, she was an active member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church , the Bowling Belles bowling league and traveled a great deal. Pauline also found time for ceramics, dancing and was a wonderful cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Gifford (Ed) of Johnstown; a son, Ron Bell of Fonda and Cheryl. Pauline is also survived by two grandsons, Sean Bell and Eric (Sherry) Gifford; as well as cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Bell in 2005; and a brother, Roy Eschler.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1 W. Montgomery St., Johnstown, with Reverend David Almleaf, pastor, officiating. Urn burial in Mayfield Cemetery will take place in the spring at the convenience of her family. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Wells Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 W.
