James Wesley Myers (Super Fan), age 84, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2013, at his home following a long illness. Born on February 16, 1929 in Johnstown, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Champagne Myers. He was educated in Wells High School.
James was employed by Renold's Lumber Co., Baileys Lumber Co. and retired from Independent Leather Mill of Gloversville. He also worked part-time for Lexington after his retirement.
He played banjo, tenor guitar and mandolin. He also called square dances and spent many happy hours playing and singing at a dance hall called the Forks in Wells campsite. Jim also played in a band called the Sodbusters. He also loved to hear barbershop quartet harmony. Jim was a member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Myers of Gloversville; two daughters, Rebecca Beck (Raymond) of Gloversville and Mary Jo Myers of New York City, NY; two grandchildren, Jennifer Stock (Shawn) of Gloversville and Jordan Starks of Gloversville. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Eugenie Hunter, Corinne Scott and Elizabeth Myers. His dog and Ole Pal, Leo, which gave him much comfort, passed away 8 days after Jim died.
The greatest enjoyment of his life for the last 21 years was attending Mayfield Central Schools boys basketball, baseball and soccer games. He never missed a game until the last year of his illness. He also attended the girls games when he could. He was known by the name of "Super Fan" by the students, teachers and other ball fans. Over the years he was given plaques, jackets, tee shirts and gift cards by the ball players. He traveled as far as Plattsburgh and Oneonta to see them play.

In accordance with Jim's wishes there was no viewing or services. Cremation has taken place at Parkview Crematory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gloversville Funeral Service. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gloversvillefuneralservice.com.
