AMSTERDAM - One night after posting a 78-9 win at Christian Brothers Academy, the Amsterdam wrestling team was back in action Thursday, hosting South Glens Falls at Lynch Literacy Academy.

The Rams remained unbeaten on the season, posting a 55-22 non-league win over the Bulldogs.

"South Glens Falls has a very strong group of wrestlers," Amsterdam coach Ken Benton said. "Obviously, the forfeits hurt them a lot, but they've got some tough kids. We got a good test tonight."

Amsterdam benefitted from five forfeits on their way to the win, as each team won five of the 10 matches contested on the mat.

"All I ask for is that we try to win at least half or more of the matches," South Glens Falls coach Jason Spector said.

The Rams got out of the gates quickly, winning six of the first seven matches.

Marcus Torres opened the match by pinning South Glens Falls' Peter DeMarco in 1:55 at 195 pounds.

Chris Garrison (220 pounds), Dom Santiago (285) and Evelio Homs (99) collected three straight forfeits for the Rams to make it 24-0.

South Glens Falls got on the board when Anthony Sgorrano posted a 12-1 major decision over Jorge Rivera to make it 24-4.

Chris Velazquez (113) and Adam Tatun (120) picked up two straight forfeits to push the Amsterdam advantage to 36-4 after seven weight classes.

Despite facing a large deficit, the Bulldogs battled back to win the next three weight classes in succession.

Matt Saville earned a hard-fought 6-2 decision over Amsterdam's Erick Rivera at 126 pounds, while Jack Rittereiser followed with a 10-3 win over Scott Moore at 132 pounds.

Zach Morris made it three straight wins for South Glens Falls, pinning the Rams' Monty Carmonain 1:12 at 138 pounds to cut the Amsterdam lead to 36-16.

The Rams bounced back to seal the win with two straight wins by Brandon Lapi (145) and John Rivera (152).

Lapi pinned Reggie Wren in 1:44, while Rivera posted an 11-2 major decision over Josh Ruddy to make the score 46-16 with three weight classes remaining.

Brandon Bruttomesso scored the final win of the night for South Glens Falls, which posted a 47-24 win over Johnstown on Wednesday, pinning Cody Haight in 2:37 at 160 pounds.

Amsterdam won the final two matches, with Brailin Santana (170) and Mashland Santiago (182) claiming wins.

"We looked to get some matchups tonight," Benton said. "We knew they had a solid middle part of their lineup. We took the risk, and bumped some guys up."

Santana edged Xavier DeLuke 8-6, while Santiago pinned Devin Greenlaw at the buzzer to make the final score 55-22. Santiago's pin ended a wild match with Greenlaw that saw Santiago lead 23-10 before getting the last-second pin.

"That last match was a battle of attrition," Spector said.

Both Amsterdam (3-0 overall) and South Glens Falls (4-5 overall) will compete at the Galway Duals on Saturday.
