FONDA -Despite strong efforts in the upper-middleweight classes, the Fonda-Fultonville wrestlers did not have an answer for the Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs won 10 of the 11 contested weights, five by pinfalls, to defeat the Braves 65-9 Thursday night in Colonial Council wrestling action at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

"Coby is solid and they might win the division," Fonda-Fultonville coach Brent Becker said. I believe either them or Schalmont."

The Braves points came from Zak Shaw and Kelsey Gray.

Gray received a forfeit in the 120-pound class, while Shaw scord a late-match reversal and back-points to out-point Nick Rehberg at 182 pounds.

Shaw grabbed an early lead with a first-period take down and turned a second-period reversal to take a 4-3 lead into the final two minutes.

Rehberg scored an escape and takedown to take a 6-4 edge before Shaw rallied for a reversal and two back-points before the match was halted briefly with 11 seconds remaining for an injury time out for Rehberg. When the match resumed, Rehberg atempted to stand up but Shaw remained in control to score the 8-6 victory.

The Braves' Ryan Park and Cobleskill-Richmondville's Zac Cooper locked up in a tight battle at 160. After finishing the first period tied at two, Cooper outscored Park 3-2 in the second period and neither wrestler gained an advantage in the final period, giving Cooper the hard-fought 5-4 victory.

Dom Mancini, Caleb TenEycjk and Mitch Hayes also turned in strong outings but were outpointed at 152, 170 and 195.

"That's where our horses are and also our seniors, right in there," Becker said. "We are still working on getting there. By the end of the season I think we are going to be much better and ready for sectionals."

The Braves will take a break from head-to-head matches to participate in the Galway Duals Saturday, Montgomery County Duals on Dec. 21 and the Galway Invitational on Jan. 4.
