WELLS - The Wells Indians hung with Schroon Lake until the final buzzer but couldn't overcome the Wildcats' shooting down the stretch in a 50-47 defeat.
The Indians were looking to rebound coming off a 59-52 loss to Indian Lake-Long Lake on Tuesday.
Ben Brenan and Seth Weaver dominated the first quarter for Wells (0-3), but not before Schroon Lake built a quick 6-0 lead. With 5:25 remaining in the quarter, Weaver got into the lane for a lay up. Brenan scored six of the next eight points for Wells including a lay up off a feed from Weaver to tie the game at 10 apiece.

Weaver and Schroon Lake's Tanner Stone exchanged buckets to knot the score at 13 before Brenan scored his seventh and eighth points of the quarter to give Wells the lead.
Brenan played huge in the quarter, accumulating three blocks to go with his eight points. Plagued by foul trouble, Brenan spent the majority of the second quarter on the bench.
The Wildcats found a rhythm from downtown in the second quarter. Stone and Alex Shaughnessy each drained a three-pointer. Nick Taylor opened the quarter with a trey for Wells but a 7-1 Schroon Lake run to end the quarter gave the Wildcats a 25-22 lead at halftime.
The teams exchanged the lead frequently early in the second half. With Schroon Lake leading 27-26, Brenan laid a ball up and in for the Indians. Caleb Maisonville knocked down two free throws at the other end to swing the lead the Wildcats' way. Two possessions later, Weaver stole the ball and went coast-to-coast for an easy lay in that gave Wells what would be their final lead of the contest.
Stone and Joe Maisonville led Schroon Lake on a quarter-ending 10-2 run.
Wells went on an 8-1 run of their own to start the fourth quarter and tie the ballgame. Brenan scored five straight for Wells before David Foster drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game at 40. Shaughnessy and Kenny Chicoski traded goals from downtown, but it was Stone that drained two jumpers down the stretch to secure the victory for Schroon Lake. Michienzi's full-court heave with less than two seconds to go fell short.
Brenan scored eight points in the fourth quarter and led Wells with 18 in the game. Weaver chipped in 16.
The Indians' next action comes Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Crown Point against the Panthers.
