Elizabeth Bellen Pearo, 93, of Petoff Garden Apartments, Gloversville, died Saturday evening, December 7, 2013, at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam.
She was born in Vail Mills on December 12, 1919, a daughter of John and Blanche Stanton Bellen and attended the one-room school in Vail Mills. Elizabeth was a 1937 graduate of Broadalbin Central School. She lived in Broadalbin before moving to Hagaman where she lived for nearly twenty five years. Mrs. Pearo resided at Petoff Garden Apartments since 2000 where she enjoyed the company of special friends.
She was employed as a glove maker at the former Crossley Glove Company in Broadalbin.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin. In addition, she was a member of the Hagaman Senior Citizens, Perth Senior Citizens, Charleston Historical Society, and the Stone Arabia Preservation Society. She was a friendly person with a great sense of humor and always enjoyed spending time with family and special friends.
Elizabeth married Lewis Pearo on August 24, 1940. He died August 19, 2000. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Phillip , who died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, R. Daniel Pearo of Fonda; a daughter, Phyllis E. Przybylo of Amsterdam; a grandson, John Przybylo; special relatives including a niece, Willemeta Gorke; and cousins, Theron Hoyt and Irene Sowles; several great-nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Heidi.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and in accordance with her wishes, burial of cremated remains will take place with a private service at the Mayfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Pet Connection, both in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown.
