Rose "Rosie" Mahay Simek, age 94, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at her residence.

She was born on October 19, 1919, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Paul Komorny and Rose Palkovic Komorny.

Rose and her family moved to Kuty, Slovakia when she was three years old and returned to Johnstown at age 16. She worked for many years at Swears Glove Co. She then operated with her first husband Andy Mahay Shoe Store until her retirement. Mrs. Simek was of the Catholic faith, a longtime communicant of the former St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown. She later enjoyed travelling with her husband Fred. Rosie will be remembered for baking great tasting Slovak pastry, strong work ethic, love of people and zest for life.
