Undersheriff plans to retire in January

GLEN - Montgomery County Undersheriff Jeffery T. Smith, who just marked 25 years of service with the county, announced his retirement today, effective Jan. 6.

Sheriff Michael Amato announced Smith's departure in a news release this morning. He said Smith began working for the department as a part-time corrections officer in 1988.

Smith also worked as a road patrol deputy, K9 officer, an officer with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and a sergeant and lieutenant with the road patrol. He became undersheriff in 2003.
