Joseph Orapello

Mr. Joseph Orapello, 83, of State Hwy. 30, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness.

Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on November 16, 1930, a son of the late Samuel and Clara Alteri Orapello, he was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1946, graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Joseph served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Joseph was employed for most of his career by the Schenectady Union of Electrical Workers No. 236. He worked at various locations throughout the area. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Mr. Orapello was a member of the Columbian Social Club, also in Amsterdam. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when the time involved food or cooking. He also loved animals.

Joseph married the former Barbara J. Bottisti Orapello on September 13, 1953. She passed away on November 24, 1993.

Survivors include his seven loving children, Michele Orapello (Michael O'Connor) of Gloversville, Sheila (Paul) Collins of Suffolk, Va. and Renee (Emmett) Harper of Gales Ferry, Conn., James Orapello of Saratoga, N.Y., Joseph (Kim) Orapello Jr. of Amsterdam, Stephen Orapello of Amsterdam and John Orapello of Amsterdam; his beloved grandchildren, Mark, Michele, Jimmy, Shannon, Robert, Margaret, Lauren, Bryan, Rachel, Taylor, Matthew, Joseph III, Jacob, Richard and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Bowie, Amya, Caliana and Mariyah. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Orapello was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Orapello.

It was Mr. Orapello's request that there be no calling hours or funeral service. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
