GLOVERSVILLE - The Common Council have approved spending up to $18,000 to pay for an outside audit review of the city's internal controls.
According to the resolution unanimously approved by Common Council members Tuesday, the city will hire the Whittemore, Dowen & Ricciardelli firm to review the city's internal controls. The cost would be between $15,000 and $18,000.
The resolution said the work will begin as early as this week.
The council agreed with Commissioner of Finance Bruce Van Genderen's suggestion at an August meeting that the city take action after a state Comptroller report said it was important for municipalities to pursue outside audit review systems of internal controls.
Van Genderen said at that time he wasn't concerned about anything in particular, but he believed it would be in the city's best interest to be proactive, not reactive, in terms of internal controls.
