Mrs. Rose M. Gerstl, 88, of Gloversville, passed away November 22 following a brief illness. She was born March 23, 1925, in Jersey City, New Jersey, daughter of the late Nicholas and Agnes Hojnacki Rice. Rose graduated Ferris High School and attended the former Trenton State University before graduating from McKinley Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.
Rose's nursing career spanned the country as frequent career moves with her husband necessitated relocation. In addition to Beth Israel Hospital in San Francisco, Rose was a supervisor and charge nurse at various hospitals, culminating in her retirement from Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, Calif., in 1990 and locating to Gloversville.
An avid bowler, she also enjoyed knitting and crossword puzzles. She and her husband, Karl, traveled extensively, visiting every state except N. Dakota. For many years, they enjoyed their summer camp at Caroga Lake and many friendships.
Rose is survived by her husband, Karl W. Gerstl of Gloversville, whom she married June 22, 1951. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas Sowul of Easton, Pa.; nieces and nephews, especially Linda and Gregory Huff of Naselle, Washington, whom she thought of as a daughter.
In keeping with Rose's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation took place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Please visit the family's online guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
