JOHNSTOWN - The Town Board on Tuesday approved the 2014 budget, which will raise the tax rate 25 cents.
According to Nancy MacVean, the town supervisor, the 2014 budget is $3.49 million, a decrease of $40,000 from 2013.
MacVean said the tax rate will rise to $1.36 per $1,000 of assessed property value.?The tax rate in 2013 was $1.11 per $1,000.
MacVean said the 2014 budget projects the town will lose $157,000 in revenue compared to 2013; the town is projecting it will lose $116,000 in sales tax due to the Walmart closing.
MacVean voted against the budget, while the three members of the board in attendance voted to approve the budget. Councilman Walter Lane did not attend the meeting.
