Rodney N. Summerfield of Gloversville, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday morning, November 12, 2013, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was 43 years old.
Born on August 27, 1970, in Amsterdam, N.Y., he was the son of the late Richard D. Summerfield Jr. and Kathleen M. Mykel.
Rodney graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1989, where he excelled in many sports, baseball being his favorite.
He was a lifelong area resident, working for several area leather mills, last one being Pearl Leather of Johnstown.
Besides his father, Richard D. Summerfield Jr., he was predeceased in death by his paternal grandmother, Arlene H. Summerfield; his maternal grandmother, Helen A. Scutt and his maternal grandfather, Graham R. Scutt.
He is survived by his paternal grandfather, Richard D. Summerfield Sr. of Rural Grove, N.Y.; his mother, Kathleen Mykel and father, Carl C. Mykel Jr. of Wickenburg, Ariz.; brothers, Scott L. Summerfield of Gloversville, N.Y., Shane Summerfield of Moorseville, N.C. and Jeremy C. Mykel of Wickenburg, Ariz.; uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Summerfield of Endicott, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs Jeffery Summerfield of Amsterdam, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Summerfield of Nelliston, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. William Summerfield of Canajoharie, N.Y.; and two nephews; and several cousins.
Arrangements were made by Gloversville Funeral service with no visitation hours. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Association.
