Joan A. Donnelly, 78, a longtime resident of Gloversville, New York, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013, on Long Island, where she had been staying with her children. After a long struggle, she succumbed to breast cancer, which she faced with courage and determination.
Joan was born on July 5, 1935, a child of three to the late Frank and Alice Bartmus Airey in Pittsfield, Mass. She married her beloved husband, the late James "Jim" Donnelly on April 6, 1988. She worked for over 25 years as a CNA, both on Long Island and for the Fulton County Nursing Agency.
Joan will be remembered for her dedication and devotion to helping out with the local food pantries in Fulton County, something she continued to do after Jim's passing.
Joan was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. She was strong in her beliefs and her faith in God. She loved singing in the choir and being a part of the church choir.
Joan was a lifelong animal lover and often spent her time tending to the needs of strays.
Joan is survived by her son, Rod Fischetti of Islip Terrace; daughter, Marilyn Fischetti of Huntington; and brother, Warren Airey of East Williston.
She was predeceased by her son, Robert; and her brother, Frank.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 150 South Main Street in Gloversville. Urn interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
