JOHNSTOWN - In a clash of undefeated teams it was the Onondaga Lady Lazers who emerged victorious 84-72 over the Fulton Montgomery Community College Lady Raiders on Sunday.

The Lady Lazers (7-0) made nine three-pointers in the game, including five by Lauren Roy. Kendra Flowers made four threes for FMCC (3-1).

Flowers' first three-pointer of the game came with FMCC down 9-4. Moment's later, Stephanie Rice put in a layup to even the score at nine apiece. Both teams went on short runs but Onondaga was able to keep a steady lead throughout the first portion of the half.

Angelique Price drained a three-pointer to put Onondaga up 23-19, but Veronica Chea answered with a three of her own on FMCC's next trip down the court. The Lady Raiders were able to get to the free throw line with some success to keep the score close. FMCC made 11 of their 21 free throws in the first half after converting just six total in Saturday's win over Cayuga. Head coach Kevin Jones attributed the increased numbers from the line to both strategy and an overzealous referee's whistle.

"[The plan] was to attack the basket a little more," said FMCC head coach Kevin Jones. "These foul rules with the hand checking, the kids don't even know when they foul anymore. There's going to be a lot of free throws and it's going to be a longer basketball game."

With the score tied 30-30 Cayuga went on a 10-0 run that spelled the beginning of the end for the Lady Raiders. Roy and Kristen McGraw hit back-to-back three-pointers during the run before Flowers made a free throw to stop the bleeding. FMCC trailed 40-32 at halftime.

"Those runs hurt us bad," said FMCC head coach Kevin Jones. "They're a great three-point shooting team. They execute well and there's a lot of things we've got to work on defensively."

Early in the second half Sherice Gayle made a layup to bring FMCC within four points, but Brittany Anderson followed up with a three-pointer to extend Onondaga's lead to seven. With the score at 50-45, Flowers hit a two-point jumper followed by a three-pointer to bring FMCC within two points of the lead. The Lady Raiders wouldn't get any closer, as an ejection of Katarina Garrett following her second technical foul swung the momentum toward the Lady Lazers.

Roy scored eight straight points for Onondaga interrupted by one three-pointer by Flowers. Onondaga made 7/8 free throws in the final minutes as they extended their lead to 15 before settling for the 12-point victory.

Coming in, Jones knew that the Lady Lazers were going to be FMCC's toughest test thus far in 2013.

"We've played three teams that basically let us do what we wanted to and when we come in here and play against a team that executes well and all their kids can get after it, we've got to prepare better," said Jones.

Roy finished with a game-high 25 points for Onondaga. Allie Taylor picked up a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Flowers' 19 points led the way for FMCC. She also chipped in 10 rebounds while Monae Abrams and Erica Redwood registered 11 boards apiece.

The Lady Raiders will look to get back to their winning ways on the road Saturday against Adirondack.
