AMSTERDAM-A city man on parole was charged with possession of heroin after police said his probation officer found a package containing heroin and cash.
Rudy Garcia-Toro, 33, of 56 Ronald Ave., was charged by police Thursday with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
Police said a parole officer was visiting Garcia-Toro's home and noticed a suspicious package that had arrived by mail. The officer asked the Garcia-Toro to open the package, which contained more than 20 grams of heroin and $185, police said.
Police said Garcia-Toro was arraigned and sent to Montgomery County Jail without bail.
Garcia-Toro was on parole after being released from prison in April 2012 after serving six years for a conviction for assault, according to state prison records.
