One ‘legend’ was left out

The Leader Herald

Kudos to all seven deserving gentlemen recently inducted into the newly created Athletic Hall of Fame at Fonda-Fultonville Central School. Each contributed in some way to assist the numerous student teachers placed in the district from the State University of New York at Cortland and I appreciated their support.

That said?- I felt one of the "legends" was missing. In 1967, (pre-title 9), a girls' athletic program was rejuvenated from the 1930s-era when females competed, as well. All schools in the area were invited to join the league, regardless of school size and number of students.

Irene Armstrong, a physical education teacher at FFCS, was the first to respond after Johnstown. She was truly a legend and worthy of accolades as well.
