Mrs. Martha A. Bozek died peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2013, at her home in Gloversville. She recently had just celebrated her 90th birthday. Born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, on October 28, 1923, she was one of eight children born to Paul and Martha Sokolowski Czelusniak.
A lifelong area resident, Martha moved to Amsterdam as a young child. She attended city schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus R.C. Church. Martha was employed as a housekeeper for St. Mary's Hospital until her retirement in 1988.
Martha was a feisty woman with a quick wit and a heart of gold. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In 1948, she was united marriage to Peter Bozek and he preceded her death in 1974. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Pearl Nickless, Irene Kobas and Paul Czelusiak.
Survivors include her children, Peter (Elaine) Bozek of Broadalbin and Susan (Mark) Beck of Amsterdam; Felicia Simons of Arizona, Joseph (Mary) Czelusniak of Virginia, Stanley Czelusniak of Broadalbin and Theresa Simons of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, Heather (Joseph) Mello, Jacob (Caitlin) Beck, Christian (Stephanie) Beck and Zach Beck; three great-grandchildren, Maggie, Dylan and Jaxon, who is on the way; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Martha's life will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with Deacon Michael Ryba presiding. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at noon at the funeral home.
