Eileen T. Martling

Mrs. Eileen T. Martling, age 86, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Palatine Nursing Home, following complications with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born September 25, 1927, in Albany, the daughter of the late Justin and Mary Gatto Tiernan. She came to Gloversville after graduating from Albany High School in 1945. She also graduated from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked as a registered nurse in the maternity ward at Nathan Littauer Hospital, as a case worker for Fulton County Dept. of Social Services, at the former Johnstown Hospital and for 17 years at the Fulton County Nursing Service, where she retired from in 1982. She had also worked part time at Albany Medical Center Hospital and for several years at Reed Medical Supply.

Eileen was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown, where she worked on the annual festival committee and was housekeeper for the late Father Joseph DiMaggio. She was a life member of the Fulton County DAV Auxiliary #122 and the Retired Public Employees Assoc.

Her life was dedicated to those in need of comfort due to sickness. She will be greatly missed.

Eileen was married to Harold F. Martling on August 19, 1978. He died October 8, 1997.

She is survived by three sons: Garfield M. Zeitler (Janice) of Brunswick, Richard M. Zeitler (Euginnie) of Baton Rouge, LA, and James R. Zeitler (Margaret Juia Butler) of Caroga Lake; a sister, Carol Ann Siemon (Leo) of Summit; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several cousins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 14, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Parish, Johnstown. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Holy Trinity Parish, 207 Glebe St., Johnstown, NY 12095 or to the charity of your choice.
