Helen Leona Ward

Helen Leona Ward, 84, of Gloversville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, November 7, 2013, at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.

Born on September 28, 1929, in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Ira J. and Evelyn (Gardener) Sitts.

Helen had worked for several department stores and retired from the former Jamesway Dept. Store in Johnstown, where she had been a clerk and manager of the footwear department. She enjoyed doing puzzles, gardening, crocheting, her pets and cooking huge Sunday family dinners in her younger days.

She was married to Herbert M. Ward, who passed away in 1981.

Helen lived in the area her entire life. She was a member of the former Gloversville Presbyterian Church and the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club in Gloversville.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by three daughters, Shirley Salvione, Sally Cozzolino and Caroline Ward; and a stepdaughter, Dorothy Kruger; son-in-law, Kenneth Salvione; grandchildren, Angela and Kimberly Cozzolino, Frank Ward and Christian Brockhum; and two brothers, Alvin and Donald Sitts.

She is survived by her children, Frank Ward of Florida, John Ward of Troy, Michael (Marion) Ward of Johnstown, Charlene Damico of Flat Creek, Frances (Albert) Williams of Glen, Lillian (Donald) Hauser of Johnstown, Linda (Edward) Brockhum of Gloversville and Danielle (Todd) Shibley of Johnstown; stepchildren, Robert (Viola) Ward of Virginia, Mary Terry of Gloversville and Sherry (Ken) Benson of Syracuse; son-in-law, Robert Cozzolino; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Burial took place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
