JOHNSTOWN - Firefighters this morning put out a blaze that damaged a vacant building on Bridge Street.
Johnstown Fire Chief Bruce Heberer said the department received a call around 7 a.m. about a fire at the former Johnstown Millworks building, which is next to the former Johnstown Bike Works.
Heberer said smoke was coming from the building, when firefighters arrived.

Heberer said the fire destroyed a small storage room for sawdust and woodchips toward the back of the building. No one was injured, he said.
Heberer said firefighters kept the fire contained to the back room.
He said firefighters at first had trouble getting into the building.
He said the cause of the fire was not yet known this morning. He said an investigation would begin as soon as the fire is put out.
Heberer said there was no electrical power going to the building.
The building, Heberer said, previously was used for making cabinets.
Cory French, caretaker of the building, said the building was not being used.
French, who volunteers with the Sir William Johnson Volunteer Fire Department, said he didn't know how the fire started.
