Granger H. ‘Jack’ Eaton

Granger H. "Jack" Eaton passed away peacefully at River Ridge Living Center on November 7, 2013. He was born in Williamson, NY, on January 13, 1924, the son of the late Clinton J. and Mary Josephine Granger Eaton.

He was raised in Ontario, NY, and graduated from school there. He was a graduate of the class of 1950 at Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. Jack was united in marriage to June DeLass in 1946, and together they moved to Esperance, NY, in 1963 to take a promotion with the state of NY. He worked in administration for the state of NY for many years until his retirement. Jack was enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Jack enjoyed gardening and sports, especially baseball and ice hockey. He was a part of many Christian groups and was always active in his church. He also volunteered for the Red Cross and donated blood there many times. He and June volunteered their time to SOWERS in their retirement, helping at many Christian camps. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, including his grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed fishing, school events and sports.

His surviving family includes: sons David C. Eaton (Victoria) of Wake Forest, NC, Thomas J. Eaton of Hartford, WI, Colonel (Ret.) Bradley G. Eaton (Dayla) of Lee Summit, MO; daughters Nancy E. Yarrison (Gerald) Parker, CO, and Liane J. Lewis (Thomas) of Glen, NY; sisters Ruth Ameele and Nettie McCullough, both of Ontario, NY. Thirteen grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Jack was predeceased by his wife, June, in 2008. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. He was also predeceased by brothers James and Norton Eaton and sisters Glenna Lewis and Pearl Kiesinger, all of Ontario, NY.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service for Jack on November 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church. Rev. Jennifer Yeske will officiate. A calling hour from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. will precede the service, also at the Fonda Reformed Church. Burial will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or to the local Salvation Army.
