BROADALBIN - After a slow start, the Broadalbin-Perth girls soccer team found its footing in the latter stages of the first half on its way to a win over Ichabod Crane in the quarterfinals of the Section II Class BB Tournament on Friday at Patriot Field.
The fourth-seeded Lady Patriots scored twice in the final 16 minutes of the first half to post a 2-0 win over the fifth-seeded Riders.
"I'm proud of the girls, the way they battled and settled down as the game went on," Broadalbin-Perth coach Rob Klug said.

"We knew we were playing a very good team today," Klug said. "We were hyped up."

In addition to a case of nerves, Ichabod Crane keeper Katie Grace made a pair of saves on shots by Herba and Kylie Gifford to keep the game scoreless.
"It was a good game. I thought we played well," Ichabod Crane coach Tracy Nytransky said. "It was pretty evenly played."
Herba finally broke through for the Lady Patriots with 15:47 left in the first half on an assist from Danielle Biggers.
"After the first goal, we settled down," Klug said.
She made it 2-0 scoring with less than a minute remaining on an assist from Orapello, who found Herba with a long punt from her goalie position.
"We tried to mark [Herba], but we didn't do a good job of it in the first half," Nytransky said.
In the second half, Ichabod Crane played B-P even, but wasn't able to find the back of the net on any of their four second-half shots.
"We had opportunities, but we didn't capitalize on them," Nytransky said. "We just weren't as aggressive as we needed to be."
The Riders also struggled to adjust to the turf surface at Patriot Field.
"We don't play on turf, so we're not used to the ball going as fast as it does on the turf," Nytransky said.
Orapello made six saves for Broadalbin-Perth, which posted its seventh shutout of the season.
Grace finished with eight saves for Ichabod Crane.
Broadalbin-Perth (14-3 overall) will face top-seeded Schalmont (17-0 overall) in the Class BB semifinals Monday at Stillwater High School at 6:30 p.m. Schalmont posted a 10-0 win over eighth-seeded Catskill on Friday. The Sabres defeated the Lady Patriots in each of the last two Class B championhip games.
"We know Schalmont from playing them in sectionals the last two years," Klug said. "This win with give us a little confidence going into that game. This was the step of the process."
Ichabod Crane finished its season 11-4-2 overall.
