GLOVERSVILLE - A city man was arrested Tuesday after police determined he left cats in his apartment after moving out, authorities said.

Jeremy T. Stanton, 27, of 112 Washington St., was charged with abandonment of animals and cruelty to animals.

Police said Stanton was arrested on a warrant after an investigation revealed Stanton abandoned five felines after moving out of his apartment.

Capt. John Sira said this arrest was connected to the previous arrest of Hope M. Litchfield, 30, who was taken into custody in September and charged with cruelty to animals.

He said the two were living together before leaving the apartment. The Department of Social Services went to do a home visit and found the cats at the property were emaciated and had a variety of medical issues,?Sira said.

Renee Earl. a board member of the Regional Animal Shelter, said the cats have recovered well and all but one have been adopted.

Stanton was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail on bail.
