Mr. Scott A. Carey, 57, of Gloversville, N.Y., passed away, suddenly, at his home on Oct. 13, 2013. He was born on June 23, 1956, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the the late Rev. E. Ellwood and Ruth Hiack Carey. Scott was a 1974 graduate of Johnstown High School and a lifelong resident of the area.
Mr. Carey was employed by the Hilton Hotel of Albany, N.Y., for the past 25 years, as the comptroller in the financial department. Prior to that, Mr. Carey was employed as manager of the Johnstown Holiday Inn. Scott was dedicated to his family and loved his wife, the former Elizabeth (Liz) A. Bartosik. They were married for 24 years and she survives. Scott loved family time and family vacations and had attempted to visit all 50 states on yearly trips with his family. Scott was an avid reader and passed that love along to his children. He was also an avid custom van owner and designer. He was one of the founding members of the Vanimal Van Club and attended events around the county on a regular basis. Scott will be missed by his family and friends and will be remembered as a fun loving, dedicated and true friend.
He is also survived by his three daughters, Autumn, Willow and Echo; his mother; and a brother, David (Kerrie) Carey of Gloversville, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown, N.Y. Cremation took place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home.
