CANAJOHARIE - After putting up 40 points last week against Schoburg, the Canajoharie offense showed no signs of any letdown.

Facing Hoosic Valley in a Class D South contest Friday the Cougars again put up big numbers, outscoring the Indians 42-8 to lock up at least the third seed in the upcoming Section II Class D postseason tournament.

"We executed very well," Canajoharie coach Ken Sullivan said. "I was very happy with our sprint out/roll out passing and we did a nice job on our blocking. Our run game has really come together now. We have to work on our counters a little bit, but I was happy with our performance overall."

The Cougars (5-1 overall, 3-1 Class D South) wasted little time getting on track.

After holding Hoosic Valley to a three-and-out on the opening drive of the game, a botch snap on the put set Canajoharie up on the Indians' 17. Nate Ferguson carried the ball three times, ending in a three-yard touchdown run. Jordan Griswold converted on the first of his six point-after kicks for a 7-0 lead.

The Cougars remained in control, putting up 21 second-quarter points.

Ferguson again found the end zone, capping off a seven play, 67-yard drive by stretching across the goal line for a four-yard touchdown run.

After forcing Hoosic Valley to turn the ball over on downs on the ensuing drive, quarterback Jace Fox hit Jordan Brownell with a 36-yard pass to move the ball to the 3-yard line. Robert Clouthier carried the ball the final three yards for the touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

The Cougars put up one more score before the half.

Using his passing game, Fox connected on a 19-yard pass to Dillan Veeder and a 27-yard completion to Zach Folts. He capped off the drive with a 6-yard pass in the end zone to Veeder for a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Cougars showed no sign of letting down after the break as Fox connected on a 25-yard pass to Veeder before finding Folts with a 36-yard touchdown strike leading to a 35-0 advantage.

Again the Canajoharie defense did its job holding the Indians in check, and the offense took over after a fumbled snap was recovered by Trever Brownell on the Canajoharie 33.

This time the Cougars moved the ball into scoring position with nine straight running plays. Clouthier was the workhorse carrying the ball on five of the plays.

Fox went to the air to finish the drive with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Folts to open the lead to 42-0.

The Indians broke up the shut out in the fourth quarter when Anthony Wasiyo carried a pile of players with him into the end zone on a 17-yard touchdown run. Isaac Sanchez ran the ball in for the 2-point conversion to put the final score at 42-8.

Fox finished the game with 171 yards and three touchdowns in an 8-for-9 passing performance.

Canajoharie will now prepare for its Week 7 showdown with Rensselaer under the lights at Canajoharie High School. The teams are tied for second in the Class D South after Rensselaer lost to Cambridge 46-27 Friday night.

"We are a definite No. 3 right now, but we need to beat Rensselaer to get a home game," Sullivan said. "They are a good team. I have seen a lot of tape on them, and I believe if we execute and play our best game we can give them a run. We will break down our film and see what mistakes we made because the tapes will tell. We are really fired up to have another game at home and we are playing a state-ranked team, which is huge. If we win, we get another home game. I don't know what other motivation they need than that."
