Emilie Stoeff Frano

Emilie Stoeff Frano, age 94, passed away on October 2, 2013, at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida.

Emilie was born April 30, 1919, in Gloversville, N.Y. She was the only child of Chris Stoeff and Marie Preclik. Her parents both worked in the glove making industry. Her father was Bulgarian and her mother was Czechoslovakian.

In 1925 the family moved to Tallahassee. For the trip south they bought a 1918 Ford for $60 dollars. Emilie, at age 6, rode in the back with their new $75 dollar German shepherd puppy. The family operated a prosperous small roadside store on South Adams Street. Emilie attended Caroline Brevard elementary school and graduated in 1937 from Leon High. She went to Business College in Albany, N.Y. and began her career as an executive secretary for a group of General Electric engineers who worked on the atom bomb. Emilie married John J. Frano, Jr. a newspaper and Yank magazine wartime photographer in 1945.

Emilie moved back south in 1952. She worked for Tallahassee Federal Savings and Loan. She was well known to many Tallahassee businessmen and community leaders. She was a member of Altrusa International, the American Cancer Society, and the Chamber of Commerce. She served with the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and attended Blessed Sacrament Church. Emilie was an intelligent, hardworking, independent woman who was very generous. She loved her family and her many friends and her constant support will be missed by all.

Emilie is survived by her only son, Christopher John Frano and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Coldwell Frano, of Newburgh, Ind.; her grandson, Christopher Walter Frano and his wife, Rose-Anne Barnidge Frano of Bredenton, Fla.; her granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Frano of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her two great-grandsons, Christopher Theodore Frano and George Amze Fano; her first cousin, Barry Chase and wife, Barbara of Edinburg, N.Y.; David Chase and wife, Debra of Tampa, Fla., and her nephew, Patrick Frano of Cathedral City, Calif.

Services were held on Monday, October 7, 2013, at Culley's MeadowWood Riggins Road Chapel in Tallahassee, Florida, followed by Interment at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308-5428.
