Marie Valachovic, 84, of Johnstown, N.Y., passed away on Sept. 30, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was born May 10, 1929, in New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Leslie and Alice Parker Kitchen. On Aug. 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dr. Robert J. Valachovic and he died on Feb. 2, 2001. Mrs. Valachovic graduated from Johnstown High School and continued her education at SUNY Oswego, SUNY New Paltz for her BA in elementary education and received her Master's Degree from SUNY Fredonia in reading and advanced study in school administration. Marie taught second grade in Fredonia, N.Y. and also taught in Pittsfield, Mass., Mexico, N.Y., Dalton, Mass. and retired in 1986 as the Director of Reading in the Richfield Springs Central School District. She then returned to Johnstown, with her husband, where they built their retirement home. In 2001, she began her career as the District Coordinator for Senator Hugh T. Farley.
