Charles A. Tyrrell Sr., 101, of Vandenburg Point Road, Gloversville, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at home. He was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on April 4, 1912, the son of the late Charles and Leona Hunt Tyrrell. He was employed in leather mills, lastly working for Karg Brothers in Johnstown.
Mr. Tyrrell married Charlotte Burgess on December 12, 1936, and she predeceased him on March 20, 1999. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. His family was his life, he was an exceptional provider never saying "No" to anyone in need, especially all the animals and stray animals he saved and took care of over the years.
Survivors include his son, Charles Tyrrell Jr. and his wife, Janice of Gloversville; his daughter, Patricia Tyrrell and her companion, Lawrence Bagnoli of Gloversville; five grandchildren, Charles Tyrrell IV, Susan Martin, Elizabeth Conroy, Kim Tyrrell and Holly Turnbull. Four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife; his daughter, Dorothy Tyrrell Snell; his three brothers, George, David and Richard Tyrrell; and his sister, Mildred Whipple.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Gloversville Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at noon.
