The Amsterdam Youth Soccer Club, started in 1990, is an independent youth organization run solely by dedicated volunteers, generating all of its revenues from player registrations, sponsorships, and fund raisers. The AYSC is not supported by governments and supports more than 300 players during the spring, fall, indoor and travel seasons.
This season, there are three divisions - U7, U10 and U14 - with more than 150 registered athletes. The AYSC Board is thrilled to have several seasoned coaches returning and many new faces taking up the roles of assistant coach.
We are proud to have the following U7 coaches and assistant coaches, respectively:
When asked why they volunteer, Coach Clavell said, "I am a single father of my daughter. She wanted to play soccer, so I figured since I played before and coached football I might as well quit football and start coaching soccer with my daughter so we would have time together."
When Coach Betz was asked why the program is important to her, she responded, "As volunteer coaches we teach the basic fundamentals and understanding of the sport of soccer. We do this for the love of the sport or we have a family member, son or a daughter, who shows interest. We are also tasked with preparing our players for the next level. We are faced with many challenges this season with the variations of ages in U7. As coaches, we want to encourage our players' growth and interest in the AYSC soccer program and at the same time provide a safe learning environment. The AYSC opens the door for children from the U6 and U8 level to have the opportunity to develop their skills, learn good sportsmanship and, most importantly, to have fun."
Our volunteers are dedicated parents who give their time to spend it not only with their own children but with several other children in the area.
If anyone is interested in a lot of fun, exercise and making lifelong friends, consider coaching or having your children play for us.
