Sir Bills beat Glens Falls

28-24 win ends 16-game skid

JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Sir Bills snapped a 16-game losing streak with a 28-24 victory over Glens Falls Friday night at Knox Field.

Matt Szurek led the Sir Bills to their first win over the Indians at Knox Field since 1996 with 97 yards rushing and three first-quarter interceptions.

Johnstown (1-3) put touchdowns on the board in each quarter, including a nine-minute, 72-yard second quarter drive to help build a 14-6 halftime lead.

Glens Falls closed the gap to 14-12 when Zach Infield turned a fourth-and-nine play into a 24-yard touchdown pass. The Indians went for two but the pass play was broken up by Ryan Auty.

The Sir Bills capitalized on a Glens Falls turnover when Brandon Stevens recovered a fumble snap on a punt on the Glens Falls 20. Steve Forker capped off the short-field opportunity with an 8-yard touchdown run and Elijah Hill kicked the extra point to give the Sir Bills a 21-12 lead heading in the fourth quarter.

Johnstown opened the fourth quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run from Forker and Hill added the point after to extend its lead to 28-12.

Glens Falls rallied for a pair of late-game touchdowns on a 2-yard touchdown run from Infield and a 69-yard drive that was capped off by a 17-yard touchdown pass from Infield to Colin Duell.

The Indians failed to execute an onside kick, and the Sir Bills gained possession with 1:53 remaining to run out the clock for the 28-24 Class B West victory.

Johnstown did its damage on the ground, carrying the ball 55 times for 288 yards.

Szurek led the way with 88 yards rushing and was 0-foR-4 passing.

Forker finished with 56 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Auty had 64 rushing yards and Adam Caputo had 61.
