Mr. Douglas W. Maidment, age 90, of Gloversville, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice.
He was born April 8, 1923, in Flint, Mich., the son of the late William and Ina Welch Maidment. A graduate of Gloversville High School, he served his country faithfully in the Army during World War II. He served as a Gloversville firefighter for 26 years and retired as senior captain in 1972.
Doug loved cars and was an avid antique car collector. He was a founding member of the Mohawk Region Model A Ford Car Club.

He was married December 12, 1943, to Virginia Mae Tiedeman, who died July 12, 2011.
Survivors include: two children, Kenneth W. Maidment of Huntersville, N.C. and Linda Torniainen (Matti) of Gloversville; a brother, William Albert Maidment (Bettye) of Gloversville; four grandsons, Bill Maidment, Erik Torniainen, Paul Torniainen and Matthew Torniainen and their respective spouses; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug was predeceased by a sister, Jayne Mann.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 20, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating. Interment will be at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
