Howard E. "Tobe" Bennett, 72, of Tennantville Road, Northville, died Thursday, September 12, 2013, at home following a long illness. He was born in Northville, N.Y., on June 9, 1941, the son of the late Howard and Helen Wells Bennett. He was a 1959 graduate of Northville Central School.
Tobe was a self-employed logger for many years and in 1987 became the town of Northampton highway superintendent until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of the Sacandaga Golf Club and an avid golfer. He loved animals and always had a pet in the house. He enjoyed being outdoors and finding projects to do with his tractor. For many years, he also enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bennett of Northville; two daughters, Rebecca and her husband, Jeremiah Conley, of Northville, and Angela and her husband, Ozzy Rodriguez, of Halfmoon. He is also survived by his grandson, Gavin Conley; and many of his golfing buddies. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Ruth Wood and Betty Sipe.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Service.
