Marilyn Collins Finocan, age 91, of Gloversville, N.Y. and Delray Beach Fla., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11 2013, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House of Gloversville. Marilyn was born in Gloversville on March 27, 1922, the daughter of Ralph O. and Winifred Gregory Collins. She was educated in local schools and Knox Prep School in Cooperstown, N.Y. and Syracuse University. She was married to John W. Finocan on Jan. 22, 1946, while he was still in military service and he survives. During World War II Marilyn was a nurse's aide. She was a member of the former Kingsboro Presbyterian Church, past president and on the board of the Getman Memorial Home, she was on the board of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxillary, and was a member of the Fulton County Historical Society and Fort Johnson Historical Society.
Survivors include one son, Timothy C. Finocan of Gloversville; one daughter, Shelly A.Vassi (Frank) of Delray Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Justin Vassi (Jill), Daniel Vassi, Luke Vassi (Jenny), Thomas C. Finocan, Amy Finocan, all of Delray Beach, Gillian M. Kaag (Michael) of Denver, Co. and Caitlyn A. Power (Padraic) of Lake Placid, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Griffen and Jake Vassi; one daughter-in-law, Elle Finocan of Stamford, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, John W. Finocan III; and one brother, Ralph O. Collins Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, September 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the former Kingsboro Presyterian Church, 255 Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville. A funeral service will follow 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
