AMSTERDAM-City police said a man was arrested Tuesday after fleeing officers.
Clifford Morway II, 25, of 295 E. Main St., was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content higher than 0.08 percent, aggravated DWI with child in a vehicle, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. Morway also received numerous other vehicle and traffic law infractions.
Police said officers saw a vehicle driving aggressively while southbound on Market Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. A brief vehicle pursuit ensued through the city. Police said Morway then turned onto Eagle Street, struck the curb and drove up the sidewalk.
Morway then fled on foot, police said, and fought with officers. During the struggle, police said, one officer broke his collarbone.
The officer was taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment while the suspect was taken into custody.
Police said two children were found inside the vehicle, which had deployed airbags inside.
The children were taken to St. Mary's Hospital for evaluation and were released to the mother. Morway is the father of the children, police said.
Morway was arraigned in City Court and was sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
