Police: Man threatened to shoot up school

September 11, 2013
The Leader Herald

GLOVERSVILLE - City police said a Speculator man was arrested today for threatening to shoot up Gloversville High School "Columbine style."

Trevor Blanchard, 24, of 104 Stanyon Park Drive, Speculator, was charged with making terroristic threats, a felony.

Police said Blanchard's threat was relayed to a GHS student via a "social media chat site/text message."

Blanchard also was charged with disseminating indecent materials to minors, a felony.

Police said Blanchard sent images of the intimate parts of an adult male to a 14-year-old female and requested she send nude images of herself back to him.

Blanchard was located and arrested with the help of the state police and Hamilton County sheriff's deputies, police said.

Blanchard is being held for arraignment in City Court.

A news release from Gloversville Enlarged School District earlier today said a lockout was conducted at the high school this morning in response to a perceived threat. The lockout was lifted after one hour.

The release said the perceived threat was related to the incident reported Tuesday, where a female student reported being harassed online over the weekend.

Police previously said the female student was reportedly harassed via social media platform Snapchat in a way that potentially threatened her safety and that of others while at school.
