Larry E. Hallenbeck, 80, of Gloversville, passed away on September 6, 2013, in Wells House Nursing Home, Johnstown. He was born on March 10, 1933, in Gloversville. He was the son of the late Clarence and Alice (Rhodes) Hallenbeck. Larry graduated from Gloversville High School in 1951. He was a lifelong area resident. He married Marian Loucks on April 18, 1954.
Larry served in the U.S. Army Reserves Engineer Corps for several years. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed bowling until a few months before his death.
For many years, he was a member of the Teroga Tribe of Johnstown. He was also a lifetime member of the Concordia Club of Gloversville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Johnstown.
Larry retired from The Wood & Hyde Leather Company in 1995 after being employed there for 39 years. He also tended bar for several years in the Northville area.
Larry is survived by his wife and two daughters, Beth (Gary) Freeman of Morrisonville, NY, and Debra Hallenbeck of Seneca Falls, NY; two granddaughters, Heidi Freeman and Jennifer (Tyler) Ashlaw, and three great grandsons, Tyler and Ethan Freeman, and Landon Ashlaw, all of Morrisonville, NY. He is also survived by one aunt, Dorothy Baldwin, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also predeceased by one brother, Edwin Hallenbeck.
The family is honoring Larry's wishes for cremation, with no services to be held. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Northville at the convenience of the family.
