Son’s energy, accessibility benefit city

September 6, 2013
The Leader Herald

Dayton King is my son. I am writing this letter in support of his re-election this year, and I realize my opinion will certainly be viewed as biased.

However, I do want to let the residents and voters of Gloversville have a glimpse of what it is like to have your son be the mayor of our city.

When Dayton told me in 2009 that he was going to run for the office of mayor, I didn't believe him. I thought he was crazy for even thinking about getting involved in politics and running for political office. When he won the election, both his mother and I were surprised and proud of his accomplishment, winning a citywide election.

We have not always agreed with every one of our son's decisions, but we have never once doubted his heart was in the right place and his decisions were made with thought for his fellow residents in Gloversville. I am amazed at the amount of time and effort he puts into his job and how he is able to balance growing his young family and leading the city.

Gloversville needs someone with Dayton's energy and accessibility to continue in the right direction. While I couldn't do his job, I do understand that it can't be an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. job.

As his first term in office comes to an end, I no longer think he was crazy for running for political office. I think he was destined to be the mayor of our community and lead the people of Gloversville into prosperity. I believe after another four years in office, our community will continue to rally and our city will grow. I admire my son's perseverance, as he has fought an uphill battle with many naysayers along the way. He is not a quitter and will keep fighting hard to be the best husband, father, mayor and son he can be.

I encourage all of the Republicans and Conservatives in Gloversville to vote for my son, Dayton King, on Tuesday in the primary.

BRIAN KING
