Daniel J. Dermott Sr. of Caroga Lake, N.Y., passed away at his home on Sept. 4, 2013.
He was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Tyler, Minn., the son of Albert and Elizabeth Elson Dermott. He was united in marriage to the former Myrtle Stearns on July 12, 1952, and she survives.
He attended Rockwood School. For many years he was a master mechanic for several area firms. He was last employed for 10 years at Lane Construction Co. in Fultonville, N.Y., retiring in 1995. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1952, where he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Roanoke and was a member of the Light Cruisers Association. Mr. Dermott was a member and trustee of the North Bush United Methodist Church, was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of St. Patrick's Lodge No. 4, F&A.M. He was a member and current associate patron of St. Monica Chapter No. 486 O.E.S. and was a member of Cayadutta Chapter, Order of the Amaranth.
He is survived by a daughter, Rosemary (Bill) Miller of North Bush; three sons, Daniel (Edna) Dermott Jr. of Ephratah, N.Y., Philip (Kathie) Dermott of Gloversville, N.Y., and John (Barb) Dermott of Hudson, Ind. Mr. Dermott also is survived by his grandchildren, Daniel, Diana, Nathan, Alisha, Casey, Stephanie, Amber, Candice, Terry Jo, Chandra and Kurt; and several great-grandchildren, nieces nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Gilmore, Mary Corcoran, Alice Halick; and brothers, Albert and Lamont Dermott.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ehle Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the North Bush United Methodist Church. Interment will be in North Bush Cemetery.
