Errol R. Sweet Sr., age 72, of Mountain Lake, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Errol was born in Mayfield on August 28, 1941, a son of the late Milton Sweet and Bertenia Tomlinson Sweet.
Mr. Sweet honorably served his country in U.S. Army in the early 1960s. He worked for many years at Carville National Leather until his retirement in 2003. Mr. Sweet was of the Methodist faith. Errol enjoyed scrapping, garage sales, gardening and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Errol is survived by his wife, Barbara (Cole) Sweet, whom he married on October 3, 1964; three sons, Errol R. (Laurie) Sweet Jr., John (Mary) Sweet, David (Linda) Sweet, all of Gloversville; two daughters, Betty (Frank) Sweet of Caroga Lake and Barbara (Arthur) Thompson of Gloversville; one brother, Gary Sweet of Gloversville; seven grandchildren, Kayla Conover, Michael Sweet, Jonathan Sweet, Nathan Thompson, Hailee Thompson, Katie Fernandez and Andrea Sweet; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Fernandez, Michael Sweet and Jordyn Sweet; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sweet was predeceased by one brother, LeRoy Sweet.
In accordance with Mr. Sweet's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
A benefit for Errol will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, at Patricia's Restaurant, 32 S. Perry Street, Johnstown.
