Johnstown library helped kids dig reading

August 24, 2013
The Leader Herald

The Johnstown Public Library's 2013 Summer Reading Program was a big success, with 308 children registering to "Dig into Reading" with us this summer. Readers read for a whopping 3,302 hours - the grandest total since 2005. Most of our 30 programs and workshops were filled to capacity, with participants exploring the world of the underground, reading to therapy dog Buck, taking in Friday afternoon movies and learning ancient art techniques, among other things. Our readers' fantastic accomplishments were celebrated with books, cake and ice cream at the final celebration Aug. 8.

Many thanks to: Mrs. Valerie Rogers and Mrs. Susan Groesbeck for creating and running an innovative, creative and engaging program; the entire library staff for its enthusiasm and dedication to the program; the Friends of the Johnstown Public Library for supporting summer reading this year and in the past; and all of the presenters and volunteers who contributed to such a successful summer.

Most of all, kudos to everyone who "dug" into reading at the Johnstown Library in 2013.

ERICA WING,

Johnstown Public Library director
