Dr. Gregory B. Nellis, 55, of Gloversville, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 21, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville with his family at his side.
He was born August 16, 1958, in Herkimer, the son of Eva (Horning) Nellis and the late Jack Nellis.
Raised in Johnstown, Dr. Nellis was a 1976 graduate of Johnstown High School. He then graduated from Binghamton University in 1980 and followed with a degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1984. Following his graduation from medical school, he performed his residency in Cleveland from 1984-1985. Dr. Nellis was an accomplished area podiatrist and devoted his life to caring for the patients of his Gloversville practice.
Running was a big part of his life. He ran two to three miles daily and would enjoy a 10 mile run every Sunday.
Dr. Nellis was married to Cheryl Antonucci on January 24, 2009; she survives. Also surviving are: his mother, Eva Tyrrell (William) of Gloversville; two sons: Brian Nellis and Aaron Nellis of Gloversville; one brother, Jeff Tyrrell of Gloversville; two stepdaughters, Kylie Taylor (David) of Fishkill and Brooke Caraco of Johnstown; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his mentor and best friend, Dr. Dan Herbowy of Utica.
Friends and relatives are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. L. David Almleaf officiating.
