Eva Masten Fisher

Eva Masten Fisher, 92, of Elmwood Avenue Extension, Gloversville, died Wednesday morning, August 14, 2013, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown.

She was born in Lilly, Pa., on March 26, 1921, a daughter of Jerome and Annie George McKinney and was a 1938 graduate of Armagh High School. Eva moved to Gloversville upon her marriage on May 12,1945, to Herbert Masten, whom she met when both served in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gloversville for more than sixty years and was a Sunday school teacher there for forty years. Her family was important to her, and she enjoyed spending time creating wonderful memories with them. Eva enjoyed reading the newspaper and her Daily Bread.

Her first husband, Herbert, died May 9, 1964. She later married John C. Fisher on August 14, 1971. He died July 31, 2011. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by two sisters who died as infants, a brother, Raymond, who died in 2007, and a son, Paul Masten, who died May 16, 2011.

Survivors include two sons, James (Judith) Masten and Charles Henry Masten, all of Gloversville; two daughters, Janet (James) Bornt of Gloversville and Beth Klena of Johnstown; her daughter-in-law, Patricia "Del" Masten of Broadalbin; a step-daughter, Kathleen Marcinkowski, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; two brothers, William McKinney of Johnstown, Pa., and Robert (Gladys) McKinney, of Seward, Pa.; three sisters, Edna Thompson of Greensburg, Pa., Vera McKinney of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Koffman of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 12 James Street, Gloversville, with Rev. Peter Ellis officiating. Calling hours will be held at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown.
