Johnstown mayor to receive award

JOHNSTOWN - The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Hometown Association will celebrate Women's Equality Day on Aug. 26 with a Garden Party featuring the presentation of its first annual Equality Award.

The Garden Party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Patsy and Tom Suydam, 601 S. William St. Union Hall Inn will cater the event, a news release said.

The recipient of this year's award is Mayor Sarah Slingerland, the release said, the city's first female mayor in 250 years.

Representing Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office for the presentation will be RoAnn Destito, the state commissioner of the Office of General Services. Destito represented the 116th Assembly District, and serves as the first woman to hold the position of commissioner of the Office of General Services.

Reservations are $30 each, $50 with ECSHA membership. Membership supports the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Cell Phone Tour in the city.
