Walter Wheeler, age 69, of Gloversville, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at his residence.
Walt was born on November 17, 1943, in Fonda, a son of the late Floyd Wheeler and Mable Muhlebeck Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler loved his cats, Baby and Wilma, who was a rescue cat. He was an avid animal lover and strong advocate for the Humane Society where he volunteered. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed the theater. Walt loved the company of his best friends and their weekly dinners out followed by trips to the Salvation Army and Goodwill. He also enjoyed being a participant in Special Olympics, Basketball and Bowling Leagues. Mr. Wheeler was fond of classic television programs such as The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza, Highway to Heaven, Mr. Ed, M.A.S.H. and John Wayne films. He was an avid movie collector and a model car collector with over 200 he accumulated over the years.
Survivors include: four brothers, Robert (Doris) Wheeler, Richard Wheeler, Roger Wheeler and Charles Wheeler, one sister, Edna Murphy, his loving extended family and friends at Sand Hill, the Poyfair Family and his friends at Lexington Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with Pastor Wilton Sharpe officiating.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Wednesday prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
