GLOVERSVILLE - Lion Linda H. Walsh, past district governor of District 20-Y2 and president of the Gloversville Lions Club, returned from Hamburg, Germany, after attending the 96th Lions International Convention in July.
Walsh participated in the five-hour parade with the New York delegation. The event included 50 countries of Lions in their native clothing.
The keynote speaker was former first lady Laura Bush, who spoke about literacy, being a former teacher, and the importance of reading and writing. Also speaking was Eunice Shriver, who spoke about the Special Olympics and how it affects blind children.
Andrea Bocelli, an Italian singer, received a $25,000 check from Lions International to help his new projects of training blind Italian children to get scholarships to continue musical education.
At the end of the convention, Lion Barry Palmer from Australia was installed as the new international president of the world with the theme of "Follow your Dream."
Walsh has been a member of the Gloversville Lions Club for 15 years, holding all offices. She was inducted as district governor last year in Busan, Korea, and ended her year in Hamburg.
