Mr. Gary C. Green Sr., 70 years old, of County Hwy. 107, Johnstown, passed away Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital with his family at his side.
He was born March 26, 1943, in Gloversville, a son of John and Lina Hinkle Green. Gary was educated at Perth Central School and was a lifelong resident of the Johnstown area. He had been employed by the former Hussmann Co. until accepting a position with Tryon School for Boys. After his retirement, Gary enjoyed a part time position with Brown's Bus Sales. He had also owned and operated the former Copper Kettle Restaurant in Johnstown.
Gary loved everything about the outdoors. Hunting was his passion. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, horseback riding, motorcycling and boating over the years. Family and friends were important to Gary, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gary married the former Carolyn Gifford on September 7, 1968, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Gary C. (Kristen) Green Jr. of Johnstown; his daughters, Debi A. (Ronald) Green-Bush of Johnstown, Denise M. (Mark) Empie of Johnstown and Melissa B. (John) Brennan of Queensbury; his brother, John Green of Spencerport, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Jonathan (Renee) Gancarz, Jarid and Joel Empie, Matthew J. and Gary Cortland Brennan, Larissa Ovitt and Devin and Brian Green; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Bailey Gancarz, Rebekah Shane, who also held a special place in Gary's heart; nieces, nephews and cousins, and Gary's beloved pets, Gizzie, Choco, Lola and Turtle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William Street, Johnstown, with The Rev. Edward A. Hackett Jr. officiating. A calling hour will precede the funeral service. The family will also receive relatives and friends from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
