Robert E. Rockwell, 75, of Sinclair Road, Edinburg, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. He was born on July 11, 1938, in Edinburg, N.Y., the son of the late George L. and Ada B. Swears Rockwell. He was a graduate of Northville Central School.
Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in France, Italy, and Germany. He was employed as a machinist for General Electric in Schenectady and Watervliet Arsenal until his retirement.
He was a member of various organizations including, Search Team 51, the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 1076, Edinburg Historical Society, NYS Fire Wardens Association, various Antique Engine Clubs and the Volunteer Fire Police of Upstate N.Y.
Survivors include his brother, Leon C. (Donna) Rockwell of Mayfield; and his sister, Betty E. Rulison of Canton, N.C.; fifteen nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Charles Rockwell, Channing Rockwell and Horace Rockwell.
Friends may call on Tuesday August 6, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Harry Edenhofer officiating. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery, Edinburg, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or charity of one's choice.
